DEBATING FOR THE TRUTH. HILAIRE BELLOC

Session Six: (A) Belloc the Debater. (B) The Perennial Need for Rational Debate in the public interest. How might Belloc debate Pro-Life and Pro-Choice?

One can debate to achieve different goals:

--Purely defensive and apologetic: to protect facts or visions challenged by persons not likely to change their minds.

--Proselytizing: to make persons change their minds in favor of the thesis presented.

--Truth seeking: debate as open ended dialog and discussion.

Is Hilaire Belloc's method of debating "timeless" enough to be applied to tinderbox public topics in 2005? How, for instance, might Belloc approach the pro life/pro choice controversies about planned abortion of unborn humans (embryos, fetuses)?
