(1)   Thomas Scott (1747 - 1821), THE FORCE OF TRUTH, 1779, reissued 1984
by Banner of Truth Trust, Carlisle, PA, p. 60.  Scott is referring to the seminal but
neglected Anglican church apologist Richard Hooker (1554?--1600). In America in
2002.the quotation also fits John Henry Cardinal Newman (1801-1890). Scott’s fast
paced intellectual and spiritual autobiography was one instrument in the 15 year old
Newman’s 1816 conversion to pro-active, supernatural, dogmatic Calvinist
Christianity within the Church of England.
